Why do we celebrate republic day

Our Country becomes Republic on 26 January 1950, on this day The constitution of India came into effect in the whole of India, replacing The government of India Act 1935. This day India also becomes a fully sovereign republic in the Commonwealth of Nations with the President of India as the nominal head of the Indian Union.

The Constitution is a key Document in our country’s history, After adopting our constitution on 26 January, a democratic government system came into force, completing the country’s transition towards becoming an independent republic. You know, 26 January was chosen as the date for Republic day because it was on this day in 1929, the declaration of Indian Independence, which was also called “Purna Swaraj” which means complete Independence was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress.

Difference between Independence Day and Republic Day

As we all know India got Independence from Britishers on 15 August 1947, which is also celebrated as Independence day every year on 15 August. But then our freedom fighters then made set-off rules and laws by which our nation will govern that is known as Constitution.

26 January 2022 will be our 73rd Republic Day, it is celebrated all over the country on 26 January by the Distribution of sweets in schools, speeches, and cultural dances, but the main celebration is held in The national capital, New Delhi, at Rajpath before the president of India. On this day, every year, ceremonious parades take place at the Rajpath by our Military and para-military forces. It is performed as a tribute to India; and showcases India’s defense capability, Cultural and Social Heritage.

There are various types of cultural performances, dances, songs, tableaus of different states are also shown, denoting rich cultural heritage, and India’s Unity in diversity.

On the eve of Republic Day, the president of India distributes Padma Awards (Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri) to civilians of India every year. These are the second-highest civilian awards in India after Bharat Ratna.

The Beating Retreat ceremony is held denoting the end of Republic day on the evening of 29 January. It is performed by the joint bands of the Army, Air force, and Navy.
